How the Foundations Program Supports Your Child

At the start of services, a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) will be conducted in which we review your child’s records, interview parent(s)/caregiver(s), observe your child, and conduct formal/informal assessments.

We will then create a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and identify skill acquisition goals to address specific skill deficits. These goals will be taught, monitored, and assessed during your child’s 1:1 therapy.

Depending on the number of therapy hours authorized for your child, you will have a team of 1-4 Behavior Technicians (BTs) trained to teach the skills identified during the assessment process. This 1:1 therapy is provided under the supervision of your Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), who trains the BT to ensure each session maximizes teaching opportunities across both structured and natural formats.

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will be assigned to your child’s case. The BCBA is responsible for creating treatment plans and ensuring goals are carried out as intended. Supervisors will also conduct initial and ongoing assessments, analyze data, modify treatment plans as needed, write progress reports, provide ongoing training and support for your Behavior Technicians, and collaborate with other professionals working with your child.

A unique and highly effective aspect of Spectrum Behavioral Therapies’ ABA treatment includes monthly clinic meetings. This is an opportunity for the entire clinical team and the family to actively participate in collaborative discussions regarding the child’s current goals, behaviors, and overall progress.

During monthly clinic meetings, the BCBA conducts a comprehensive review of all treatment areas and makes efficient changes to the clinical program to drive results. This collaborative approach has been shown to maximize progress and empower families to generalize ABA strategies that support all areas of the child’s day-to-day life. Parent involvement is key to the ABA program’s success, and parents are encouraged to participate actively throughout their child’s treatment. Parent training goals are developed specifically for each family, with the child’s goals and parents’ strengths and challenges in mind.

During parent training sessions, parents work 1:1 with their supervisor to learn about the principles of ABA and strategies to maintain consistency in teaching, ensuring a unified approach to the child’s development. Supervisors support families by providing guidance and resources to empower them to understand and use these skills on a daily basis.

ABA Therapy for Kids

ABA therapy is particularly beneficial for children because it offers early intervention. Early indicators of autism, such as delayed speech or social challenges, can be addressed effectively through ABA therapy. Our interventions focus on improving communication, social, and daily living skills. Parents can expect to see their children develop critical abilities that improve their interaction with others and increase their success in various settings.

Early Intervention

Starting therapy at a young age allows for the greatest impact. It leverages the brain’s neuroplasticity, which gives children the capacity to learn—or unlearn—behaviors, routines, and actions quickly. Early intervention programs address developmental delays and promote skill acquisition. Success stories from our center highlight the long-term benefits of early intervention, including improved academic performance and better social integration.

ABA Therapy for Children and Teens FAQs

Have a Question?

We are here to help you with any questions you might have surrounding ABA Therapy.

The duration of your child needing ABA therapy will depend on factors such as age, level of delays, and response to ABA treatment. Because we cover a wide range of developmental areas and need to ensure generalization of skills across people and settings, you should expect your child to need ABA therapy for at least 1-2 years, and often longer. Get started here.

All ABA therapy requires an adult over 18 years old to be present in the home, except in clinic sessions where a caregiver does not need to be present, and you may drop the child off. Caregivers do not need to participate in the entirety of direct ABA therapy sessions but are required to participate in parent training and communication with supervisors and board-certified behavior analysts. The more you participate in your child’s therapy, the better able you will be to implement strategies into your home and help your child meet their goals.

Parents must participate in early intervention treatment. This is so you can use the strategies during and after the sessions. These resources are utilized to support your child’s progress. You are your little one’s main teacher and the skills you learn through participating in early intervention will help improve your teaching skills.

The hourly commitment will depend on various factors, but children within our direct ABA therapy program can expect to be scheduled for 10-40 hours per week of sessions.

The length of the assessment procedure differs, usually ranging from two to six weeks, depending on staff availability. Various elements, including the arrangement of required assessment sessions, obtaining insurance cover ABA therapy approvals, and providing sufficient time for an in-depth review by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), can influence this period. This process guarantees a thorough and meticulous evaluation tailored to the unique requirements of your child.

Our BTs have extensive initial training through our company and a 40-hour registered behavior technician (RBT) certification training provided by an outside training program. BCBAs and Clinical Directors provide ongoing training during and outside of 1:1 sessions.

A child demonstrates school readiness when they can learn from different people and demonstrate skills across different environments. The child should be able to follow both individual and group instructions with minimal prompting, transition between activities, attend to group activities, sit for long durations, and complete complex and non-preferred tasks with minimal guidance. Ultimately, school readiness is demonstrated when the child can learn new skills without requiring individualized one-on-one support. Learn more about school readiness here.

Placing a child in a school readiness program before they enter formal education is imperative to ensure they acquire essential classroom success skills. These foundational skills are necessary for children to find themselves consistently behind their peers because the school often needs to be equipped to teach one-on-one skills that are expected to be demonstrated in the class setting. In our school readiness program, children are provided with necessary tools such as learning from various sources, following individual and group instructions, transitioning between activities, sitting for extended durations, participating effectively in social opportunities, and completing complex and non-preferred tasks. Through this proactive approach, children develop the self-sufficiency to learn and adapt as they progress through their academic journey. Dedicating a school readiness program as a preventive measure minimizes the need for additional support down the road.
