What is In-School ABA Therapy?

In-school ABA therapy helps children with autism build the behavioral, social, and communication skills needed to succeed in a classroom environment. At Spectrum Behavioral Therapies, our school readiness and school shadowing services support children as they transition into school by helping them develop important classroom and peer interaction skills.

Our ABA therapists work with children on skills such as:

  • Sitting for circle time
Attending to teachers and classroom instructions
  • Following group directions
  • Initiating and joining play with peers
  • Building conversational and social skills
  • Sustaining attention during non-preferred tasks

The goal of in-school ABA therapy is to help children feel more confident, independent, and prepared for success in academic and social settings.

Spectrum’s Approach to School Readiness

School Shadowing

We provide school shadowing services for children who benefit from additional support in the classroom. Our goal is to help each child build the confidence, communication, and classroom skills needed to participate more independently at school.

Through individualized ABA support in real classroom settings, our therapists focus on helping children learn to follow the teacher’s instruction, engage with peers, and navigate the school environment with increasing independence. A key part of our approach is gradually fading therapist support over time to prevent prompt dependency and promote long-term success in the classroom. Support may include:

  • Qualified ABA therapists initially provide individualized support during the school day to help children develop learning, behavior, communication, and peer interaction skills within the classroom environment.
  • Therapy is tailored to your child’s unique needs, with therapist prompts and direct support intentionally reduced over time as instructional control is transferred from the therapist to the classroom teacher.
  • We collaborate closely with teachers and school staff to create a positive, supportive classroom experience while reinforcing strategies that encourage independence and long-term success at school.

Our primary goal is to help children participate successfully and independently in the classroom without relying on therapist presence or prompts.
